John 20:19-31

Thomas left the community of the apostles and Mary, feeling let down, a bit down on himself. Jesus didn’t go chasing him, but gave him time.  He came back after a while. I wonder what brought him back.

We all need time on our faith journey. Different experiences in life bring doubts and renewed faith. Love in our lives is one big way of finding faith – ‘to love another person is to see the face of God ‘(Les Miserable).

The divine face looks kindly on every love. Even when I love myself sincerely and honestly I find God’s closeness.

Love is the personal gospel. Love is to be happy to believe even though we have not seen.

Why did Thomas come back? I think love brought him back – love of Jesus and the community. Knowing that the love he had with Jesus did not fail. Even when he returned, his faith was deeper than the touch, for it never said he touched the wounds. He saw and like the other, he believed. They saw an empty tomb, and he saw the wounds.

For just when we find love let’s believe: Happy are they who have loved for they have seen what faith cannot see, and then they find faith.

Lord I believe in you and your risen presence; strengthen my belief.
