Wisemen and baby jesusReflection for the Feast of the Epiphany, January 6th 2018

People find God in many different ways: prayer, nature, love, sacraments and even suffering are privileged ways. Also in questioning the depths of the meaning of life, and in questioning who God is.

Like the Magi, we find God in our own way, each of us following a personal star leading to God. The Magi were people who bypassed some ordinary ways that the people of the time went towards God, yet they found their way. All of his life, Jesus, the child of Bethlehem will be reaching out to everyone, finding them as they look for him. He found them in religious and non-religious places. The Magi were true to their search and found God in a child.

This sort of search  is part of our humanity. When we admire beauty, love another, prayer for another’s health; or passionately question the meaning of life, act for justice, or find strength and search for meaning in suffering, we have found something of the Divine, of Mystery, of God. We are, maybe even without knowing it, following our star.

The road of the Magi was a long, and beautiful road. All of us travel a similar road  whenever we follow the star of love, goodness, faith, courage, endurance and justice: the light of the star is the light of God.

In the loves and questions, joys and sorrows of our life’s journey,   Lord Jesus, keep us moving towards you.
